Phone Booth
Funnyman Jim Carrey has gotten the call to make Phone Booth, a Hitchcockian thriller about a man who answers a pay phone on a crowded New York City street, only to be told by the caller that if he hangs up, he dies.
Joel Schumacher, who directed Carrey in the blockbuster Batman Forever, will helm the decidedly low-fanfare project. Since nearly every scene will involve Carrey fighting an invisible sniper (we hope for less than 10 cents a minute), not much production is required.
Since Fox 2000 optioned the script two years ago, Phone Booth has been a buzz project with many top names attached. Earlier this year, Will Smith was rumored to have the lead in Phone Booth, but is now busying himself with the Muhummad Ali biopic Ali. Likewise, director Michael Bay left the project to film the World War II epic Pearl Harbor.
Shooting is expected to take place on an unnamed Manhattan, N.Y., street this summer. Phone Booth should wrap in just a matter of weeks.
